BCCS & White Nose Syndrome

Because of the ongoing problem with bat deaths associated with white nose syndrome the BCCS has adopted the measures recommended by the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the VA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DGIF/DCR) to reduce the spread of White Nose Syndrome in Virginia.

The BCCS has also added these restrictions for BCCS administered caves:

• During hibernation season (October 15 to April 15), only scientific trips will be permitted. This will be reevaluated at the Memorial Day Weekend BOD Meeting in 2010.
• The November and December expeditions have been suspended.
• The responsibility for following DGIF/DCR guidelines falls on the trip leader who will be a BCCS member.
